Social RESPONSIBILITY
We’re all about “doing good while doing well”.
Here’s how we do it.
OUR EFFORTS
We run on renewable energy.
Bitters Lab is located in Artspace Solar Gardens, the first completely net-zero solar-powered building in the state of Utah.
We source sustainably.
All of our bitters are made with sustainable ingredients (food produced and transported in a way that limits its contribution to global warming) and from food grown at local farms as often as possible.
We use recyclable materials.
Unlike plastic, glass can more easily be recycled! That’s why all our bitters come in glass bottles. We also use recycled and recyclable cardboard & paper. We are also working towards eliminating bubble wrap and bubble wrap-lined bags, so our packaging will be 100% recyclable in the future.
We reduce waste.
We compost all organic waste from the bitters-making process and donate any excess fresh items to local businesses.
We reuse cardboard and glass and recycle what we can.
Recyling & Upcycling Our Bottles
How to upcycle
We recommend upcycling our bottles, rather than putting them in a recycling bin. Glass is endlessly reusable, back to its original use and doesn’t loose its quality or purity, it also does not leach chemicals, since it’s made from 100% natural ingredients, and flavors won’t seep into the glass. When it comes to upcycling (or reusing discarded objects in a productive way), you’re only limited by your imagination. Here are some of our favorite ways to get extra use out of an empty bitters bottle:
Fill them up with homemade simple syrup
Store makeup remover, lotions or essential oils
Pour in your toiletries for travel-sized bottles, perfect for camping or trips
Add a fresh-picked flower for a sleek & simple vase
Get crafty. Pinterest is teeming with DIY projects using glass bottles
Keep olive oil & vinegar or your favorite homemade salad dressing on hand
Collect them! Get inspired by this incredible collection
How to recycle
To recycle our bitters bottles, simply remove the label, lid & reducer then place the bottle in a designated glass recycling bin, and don’t forget to recycle the lid and reducer in a plastic recycling bin.
Why Buying Local Matters
While we can’t source every ingredient locally, we do our best to ensure the purchases we make outside of our community are from farms, small businesses, and companies who practice sourcing & growing the highest quality ingredients in a sustainable way.
It reduces waste.
When we shorten the distance from the farm to the kitchen, we reduce the amount of pollution, food waste & packaging in the process. And the less waste the better!
It supports sustainable agriculture.
When you shop locally, you encourage local farmers to grow a wide variety of crops. This biodiversity is great for agriculture because it creates more nutrient-dense soil. And our food is only as good as the soil it’s grown in!
It supports local businesses, the people behind them, and their families.
Every dollar we spend at a local farm goes directly to the farmer--not a big corporation spending millions of dollars on transportation, logistics, or marketing. This money enables these local farmers to support their families, create jobs within the community and produce more of the highest quality ingredients.
Fresher ingredients!
When we shop from local farms, we get just-picked ingredients. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. Not only does that mean they’re perfectly ripe and tasty, but they’re also richer in nutrients.
