Orange Caraway Seed Cake

Ingredients for Cake

  • 3/4 cup softened butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 tsp Orange Caraway bitters

  • 3 tsp caraway seeds

  • zest from 1/2 small orange

  • 1 1/4 cups flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

  • 1 TBS almond flour

  • 1 TBS milk

Instructions

  1. spray a 9" round pan with baking spray & set aside.

  2. preheat oven to 350°

  3. cream butter and sugar together in stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment until fluffy & pale.

  4. whisk the eggs together, then add in the bitters

  5. slowly add the beaten eggs to the butter and sugar until fully incorporated

  6. in a separate bowl, whisk all of the dry ingredients together

  7. then slowly add dry ingredients to butter and egg mixture, then add in the 1 TBS milk, just until everything is combined - careful not to over mix

  8. dump batter into prepared pan and bake for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean

  9. let cool completely in pan

  10. once completely cooled remove from pan & top with orange caraway glaze

Orange Caraway Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 TBS powdered sugar

  • tiny splash of milk

  • about 1/2 tsp orange caraway bitters

Instructions

  1. add all ingredients to a bowl, whisk until smooth

  2. the amount of sugar added may depend on consistency of glaze desired (If mixture seems runny, slowly add more powdered sugar until thickened)
